Penny Black Organic Hair Salon offers Australia's first and only Certified Green Salon experience. Its products and services are selected against rigorous standards, with environmentalists and green chemists informing the certification process.

The salon is audited annually and its stylists continue their education as Green Hairdressers - turning clean beauty from a marketing phrase into an operating standard.

With more than 50 chemicals banned, an annual certification audit and ongoing Green Hairdresser education help govern what enters the salon - from haircare and colour to cleaning products and even the paint on the walls.

Water, thoughtfully

Filtered alkaline water, together with EcoHead basin filters, supports a considered guest experience while using up to 56% less water.

Air with intention

An aerosol-free environment with no synthetic fragrances helps create a restorative atmosphere, supported by zero-VOC paint choices.

Responsible operations

Energy-efficient LED lighting, detergent-free laundry technology and approved cleaning products reduce the salon’s environmental burden.

New generation colour

Direct dye.

Unlike traditional oxidative colour, our direct-dye system uses a fully developed colour molecule. It attaches principally to the outer cuticle rather than relying on a secondary activator to open the hair shaft. More importantly, it is free from chemicals known to be allergens and endocrine disruptors.

The intention: intense, vibrant and lasting colour while preserving the natural integrity of the hair and supporting the wellbeing of guests who are immunocompromised, live with allergies or sensitivities, are pregnant, are undergoing chemotherapy, or consciously choose a healthier lifestyle.
