FOUNDER

Nanette

My passion for hairdressing has taken me to where I am today. I started my hairdressing career at the age of 16, Owning two hair and beauty salons - based in the U.K. In 2008 I relocated to the Sunshine Coast, Australia.  Where I have created the only certified green salon in the southern hemisphere. I am so proud to be able to share my passion and knowledge with my team and clientele.

I frequently get asked “Why become a certified green salon and what is the difference between a green salon and an organic salon?” Our industry is a very archaic industry – unfortunately there has not been much change within the raw materials used in products for decades. The hair industry has been left behind in creating cleaner products that are safer for the consumer and our environment. As a green salon, this is our main focus- avoiding toxic chemicals.

My own health concerns took me to investigate a green salon concept that offers a much cleaner chemical approach to hairdressing. There are only 70 green salons in the world, and being able to provide this on the Sunshine Coast I feel is a great achievement. My own health has improved dramatically since we made the change over 5 years ago, which has allowed me to continue working within the hair industry.

My vision is to inspire other Hair and Beauty experts in our industry to make the change and educate themselves in the toxicity of raw materials used and to be able to make a clean, transparent safer choice for themselves and clientele. I look forward to the next chapter in my career educating and introducing more sustainable and beneficial products for the hair, skin and environment.

CO FOUNDER

Laura

Hi everyone I’m Laura. I am an internationally trained cidesco beauty therapist with over 11 years in the industry. I have been with Penny Black since the beginning. Nanette and I travelled all around the world to discover the green concept and to upskill on the chemical side of things. In doing so we have met many amazing green chemists and environmentalist’s that we still work with today. Being able to create a certified green concept salon here in Australia gave Nanette and I the opportunity  to create a safe haven for all things hair and beauty not only for ourselves but the team and our amazing clientele.

With my creative passion I enjoy brow sculpting and nail care and offering a relaxing scalp massage in our shampoo lounge. I love spending time with my family and furkid, including walks, bike rides and being active outdoors and making the most of what the beautiful Sunshine Coast has to offer. I look forward to passing on my green positivity and passion amongst the community and further more.

salon manager

Megan (Currently on Maternity Leave)

Hello I’m Megan, I have 12 years experience in the hairdresser industry and have been at Penny Black Organic since 2014. I myself like a lot of our clientele have suffered bad reactions to traditional salon products. Waking up almost everyday with huge welts on my eyelids not knowing that I was being exposed to toxic chemicals. I was lucky enough to have started the non toxic approach early in my career.

My favourite part about working at Penny Black Organic is definitely the culture and atmosphere as well as our ethos and aim for a greener and cleaner industry. Being able to sit down with each client and educate them about the importance of what we are doing. I would say that I am an all rounder in the salon. I enjoy all aspects of hairdressing but would say my strength is foiling. In my spare time I enjoy being outdoors as much as possible. Beach days in summer and sitting around my fire pit on winter nights.

SENIOR STYLIST

Tania (Currently on Maternity Leave)

Hello I'm Tania, I have been hairdressing for 8 years. I have experienced a lot of headaches and migraines and thought nothing of them until I found Penny Black and discovered all of the hidden toxins that I was being exposed to without realising.

I enjoy every aspect of hairdressing, my favourite part if I had to choose would be foiling and bobs.

In my spare time I enjoy being outdoors with my animals, riding horses or playing sport.
